Calling All Acolytes and Youth Ushers!
We are excited to welcome our acolytes and youth ushers back into service this fall! All teens and tweens are invited to serve as worship leaders at our 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday mornings and at special services throughout the year. What do acolytes and ushers do? Read on!
Acolytes do a whole host of things, including light candles, lead processions, and assist with setting the altar for Holy Eucharist. Even the youngest children know to watch for the acolyte carrying the big cross – that means the service has begun! This fall, acolytes will serve in three-person teams, scheduled on a rotating basis. Depending on the number of acolytes, each team likely will serve three or four times a semester. Training and coaching will be provided by our team of acolyte masters.
Ushers are at the front line of hospitality and welcome, the first parishioners someone meets when arriving to worship at St. Peter’s. In addition to greeting people, ushers bring the children from Sunday School into worship, collect the offering, invite people to come forward to receive Holy Communion, and provide assistance to worshippers as needed. Youth ushers are scheduled to serve alongside adult ushers a couple of times each semester.
The fall worship schedule begins on Sunday, September 11! Acolytes and ushers need to arrive at church by 10:10 a.m. on the Sundays they serve. When scheduling conflicts arise, assignments get traded over text and email; somehow, it always works out!
We need your leadership on Sunday mornings as we begin our fall season of worship. If you are interested in serving as an acolyte or youth usher this fall, or want to know more about it, please contact the Allan Ivie at and 314-623-3138 or Sophie Collings, our new Director of Youth Ministry, at and 314-993-2306 ext 108 by August 31.
