Vestry and Delegate Nominations

11/17/22

Vestry and Delegate Nominations

The Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the Vestry and delegates to the annual Diocesan Convention. Below are brief descriptions of roles, requirements, and expectations for each role. A slate of four to five new Vestry members and one Diocesan Delegate will be presented to the congregation at our Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 28 between services. Any member of St. Peter's may nominate a candidate (including themselves).

Please speak with anyone you plan to nominate before submitting to make sure they are interested, willing, and available to serve in these important roles. Nominations are due by Friday, December 29.

The Vestry

Purpose

The Vestry is the lay leadership team that works with the Rector to help define and articulate the mission of the church, support the church's mission by word and deed, pray, ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances. In addition, Vestry members will be assigned to projects or teams to further the work in keeping St. Peter's on track with God’s plan for our future.

Requirements

A Vestry nominee must have been a member of St. Peter's for at least one year. The nominee should also be a confirmed communicant in good standing of the parish; that is, faithful in corporate worship and in working, praying, and providing financial support for the ministries of St. Peter's Church.

Expectations

Regular attendance at Vestry meetings, which typically meets the third Tuesdays of each month at the church. The term is for three years.

Diocesan Delegates

Our Lay Delegates along with our Clergy represent St. Peter's at the annual Diocesan Convention (https://www.diocesemo.org/diocesan-convention/) which typically occurs on the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving. Attendance is also encouraged at the other meetings with delegates from other parishes in in the diocese. While attendance at these monthly meetings is not required, there is usually coordination among the lay and clergy delegates and to make sure St. Peter's is represented. Alternate delegates will be asked to attend the convention in the event a delegate is unable to attend. The term is for three years.
