The Blessing of the Animals: October 4

The Blessing of the Animals
Saturday, October 4th at 10:00 a.m.

A joyful morning to give thanks for God's creatures

There's a special kind of joy that pets bring to our lives -- their companionship, curiousity, and the simple, faithful ways they teach us about love. On Saturday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m., St. Peter's will welcome animals of every stripe for our annual Bless of the Animals. We'll gather on the front lawn (by the horseshoe driveway) for a short, warm liturgy of thanksgiving let by the Rector, followed by individual blessings.

"We give thanks today for the faithful companionship of God's creatures and for the ways they enrich our lives."

-- The Rev. David Hodges, Rector

What to expect

  • A brief liturgy (about 15 minutes) led by clergy, with an opportunity for an individual blessing for each pet.

  • Family friendly: children are encouraged to attend; stuffed animals or photos of beloved pets are welcome.

  • Refreshments & treats: we’ll have water stations for animals and treats available for our furry friends.

  • Photos: we will take candid photos during the event and of each animal; a gallery will be shared after the service.

  • Accessibility: the front lawn and nearby sidewalks are wheelchair-accessible. If you need assistance, please contact us in advance.

Helpful logistics — please read

  • Leashes & carriers: For safety, please keep dogs on a short leash and cats/other small animals in carriers. Birds should remain in secure cages.

  • Health & behavior: Only bring pets that are up-to-date on vaccinations and comfortable around crowds. If your animal is nervous in groups, consider bringing a photo or stuffed animal instead.

  • Arrival & parking: Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to find parking and allow time to settle your pet.

"Almighty and everlasting God, Creator of all things and giver of all life, let your blessing be upon all creatures, and especially on these animals we bring before you this day.”
