Strategic Plan in Action

St. Peter’s Launches Strategic Plan Implementation Focused on Growth, Connection, and Community Impact
St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is entering a new chapter as it moves from vision to action on a comprehensive strategic plan designed to strengthen its campus, deepen community connections, and expand its outreach across the St. Louis region. During a recent Rector’s Forum, church leaders shared how months of planning have evolved into coordinated efforts across multiple teams, each focused on key areas including campus development, worship experiences, congregational engagement, and outreach. At the center of the initiative is a clear goal: to create a church experience that is more welcoming, accessible, and connected, both for current parishioners and for the broader community.
A Campus Designed for Community
One of the most visible elements of the plan is a reimagining of St. Peter’s physical space. Leaders envision transforming the campus into a vibrant, “24/7” hub, a place that supports worship, fellowship, education, and community gatherings throughout the week. Proposed improvements include expanded parking, enhanced signage, improved accessibility, and redesigned gathering areas. Attention is also being given to creating more welcoming entrances and better navigation across the campus, helping ensure that visitors and longtime members alike feel at home. A full campus master plan is expected later this fall, with a capital campaign anticipated to follow in early 2027.
Strengthening Connection, Not Just Programming
While physical improvements are a key focus, the plan also reflects an important insight: the church does not need more programs, it needs stronger connection to the ones it already offers. Church leaders identified communication, scheduling, and awareness as the primary barriers to participation. In response, new strategies are being introduced to help parishioners more easily engage in parish life.
These efforts include:
- A centralized, easy-to-use calendar of events
- Improved weekly and seasonal communications
- Enhanced hospitality through greeters, newcomer pathways, and follow-up systems
- New opportunities for connection, including neighborhood-based gatherings and family-friendly events
Together, these changes aim to make it simpler for people to participate and feel a sense of belonging.
Expanding Worship and Engagement
The plan also calls for expanding worship experiences beyond Sunday mornings and creating more opportunities for meaningful participation. Efforts are underway to improve hospitality, strengthen communications, and make each touchpoint, from services to events, feel intentional and welcoming.
Deepening Commitment to Outreach
Outreach remains a central priority. St. Peter’s continues to partner with local organizations and other churches on service efforts ranging from food distribution to community events.
In addition to ongoing initiatives, leadership is working to develop a long-term outreach strategy and explore what they describe as a “God-sized dream”, a bold vision for making a lasting impact on those in need throughout the St. Louis community.
Looking Ahead
As these efforts move forward, the focus remains on building a church that is not only a place of worship, but a place of connection, growth, and service. With clear priorities, active committees, and a defined timeline, St. Peter’s is positioning itself for a future that is both grounded in its mission and responsive to the needs of its community.
