Spotlight on: The St. Peter's Guild

A Quiet Force for Good: The St. Peter’s Guild

On any given week, you’ll find a group of women gathered together at St. Peter’s, sharing conversation, learning from one another, and enjoying the simple gift of community. They are the St. Peter’s Guild. At first glance, their time together may look like fellowship, and it is. But beneath that steady rhythm of gathering is something more: a quiet, consistent commitment to care for others and to give back to the wider community in meaningful ways. Over the past year, the Guild has woven together friendship, learning, and service in ways that have made a tangible difference both within and beyond the parish.

Gathering with Purpose

Throughout the year, the Guild hosted a wide range of programs designed to both inform and inspire. From practical topics like money management to engaging presentations, including a forensic specialist discussing DNA and a historical program highlighting remarkable women such as Marie Curie and Peggy Shippen. Their gatherings offered opportunities to grow in knowledge while strengthening community bonds. These weekly meetings are as much about connection as they are about content, creating space for conversation, curiosity, and shared experience.

The Guild’s annual calendar also included moments of celebration and shared purpose. Their fall luncheon served as an end-of-season gathering, an opportunity to come together, reflect, and enjoy one another’s company. Seasonal gatherings, like a Christmas party hosted in a member’s home, added to the sense of belonging that defines the group.

Responding with Generosity

What stands out most is how the Guild continually turns its energy outward.

Over the past year, their generosity has supported a wide range of ministries and organizations, including the JustFood Truck, Episcopal City Mission, the Salvation Army, and Haven of Grace. They adopted a family in need, providing clothing, games for a child, and a gift card for a mother, and created individualized Easter baskets for children connected with Veteran’s Endeavor. The Guild also held a highly successful estate sale that raised over $12,000. Those proceeds were used in part to support St. Peter’s through the purchase of new microphones and a new Gospel book and cover, with the remainder directed to the JustFood Truck, extending the Guild’s impact well beyond the parish. Their Mother’s Day flower sale further extended their impact, with proceeds supporting housing repairs for homeless veterans and their families.

Honoring and Remembering

This year also included a time of remembrance. Following the passing of Guild member Margie Franz, the group gathered to honor her life with a memorial reception, directing donations to the JustFood Truck. They also made a contribution in her memory to the Ladue Garden Club to support a scholarship, a lasting tribute that reflects the Guild’s spirit of generosity and care.

A Ministry of Presence

Taken together, these efforts tell a larger story. The Guild’s work is not defined by a single project or moment, but by a steady, faithful presence, showing up for one another, for the parish, and for the community. They gather. They learn. They give. And in doing so, they embody something essential to the life of the Church: the quiet, often unseen work of building relationships and extending care. The St. Peter’s Guild may meet weekly around a table, but their impact reaches far beyond it.
