Mission Trip 2026: The Best Week of the Year

Last week, a group of leaders and 26 high school students from St. Peter's and the Church of St. Michael and St. George set out on a journey to the mountains of Virginia for a week of service, fellowship, and faith in action.

Upon arrival, our team of 30 divided into four crews, each assigned to serve a different family in the local community. The mission was simple but meaningful: help make each home safer, drier, and more accessible for the families who live there. Because we were the final service teams scheduled for the summer, completing every project was essential.

Throughout the week, students and leaders tackled a variety of construction projects. Some crews installed siding, others repaired and secured flooring, and others built wheelchair-accessible ramps. Long days of hard work were met with determination, teamwork, and plenty of laughter.

Yet the most lasting impact wasn't found in the projects themselves. As relationships grew between our crews and the families we served, we were reminded that mission work is about much more than construction. Through shared stories, conversations, and prayers, we experienced the blessing of serving others and discovered how much we received in return.

By the end of the week, tired but grateful, everyone seemed to arrive at the same conclusion: this mission trip is the best week of the year—every year. It is a powerful reminder of what happens when young people step out in faith, work together, and share Christ's love through service.

We give thanks for the opportunity to serve, the families who welcomed us into their homes, and the many supporters whose prayers and generosity made this trip possible. The memories, friendships, and lessons from Virginia will stay with us long after the work is done.
