Help Wanted: Sunday School Teachers

Volunteers Needed

Looking for a highly fulfilling journey with our Sunday School children? We need you! We provide the teaching materials for you; you just need to commit to a little prep time and one Sunday a month for kids K/1st grad, 2nd/3rd grade and 5th/6th grade.

Please prayerfully consider God's calling to serve.

Here are this year's learning goals for each grade level:

St. Peter's Sunday School Learning Goals 2025-2026

Nursery

· Know that we are all created and loved by God
· Know the name of their Church and that they are part of St. Peter's
· To experience Church as a lively, secure place where people care about and listen to them Know their teachers' and classmates' names
· To explore some of the Old and New Testament stories
· Know that we should all help others in Service Ministry and begin to expand a role in the Church community by volunteering

Kindergarten and First Grade

· All of the Learning Goals in Nursery
· Baptismal Covenant: Be able to tell the story of their own baptism and know its anniversary To know that God loves all of us deeply
· To begin to tie their faith to their everyday lives
· To start each class with a prayer
· To know our Church is welcoming, learning that they are an important part of the people of God Be able to identify the clergy and understand that they serve the Church by teaching about Jesus, preaching, leading the worship, and visiting the sick
· To understand at communion we eat bread and drink wine
· To talk with and respond to God in prayer, and to know that prayers at home are important
· To understand and be familiar with The Lord's Prayer
· Know many Bible stories in the Old Testament and the New Testament
· Know the Bible stories that recount Christmas, Holy Week and Easter
· To begin to expand a role in the Church community: participating in Service Sundays, Sandwich Sundays, and Summer Service Weeks

Second and Third Grade

· All of the Learning Goals in Nursery, Kindergarten and First Grade
· Baptismal Covenant: Why would God want us to promise?: (1" Promise), pg 304 BCP
- Will you continue in the apostles teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?
· To memorize The Lord's Prayer, pg 364, BCP
· To understand and be familiar with the 10 Commandments
· Know the names, colors and symbols of the 6 liturgical seasons of the church year
· Have a basic understanding of Communion and the body and blood of Christ
· To explore the plot and characters in some of Jesus' Parables
· Be familiar with the basic parts and furnishings of the Church: altar, baptismal font, organ, lectern, paschal candle, pulpit, bishop's chair

Fourth and Fifth Grade

· All of the Learning Goals in Nursery to Third Grade
· Baptismal Covenant:

o Why would God want us to promise? (2nd and 3rd Promise), pg 304 BCP
o Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?
o Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?

· To feel comfortable with and know how to use their Connect Bible
· Know that there are two parts to the Bible, the Old and the New Testament
· To be familiar with The Books of the Bible, and to know how to look up verses in the Bible
· Memorize the first 12 Books of the Bible in the Old and the New Testament
· To understand and be familiar with The Nicene Creed
· To memorize the Ten Commandments
· To be able to read and discuss short biblical passages
· To begin to take an active role in the Church community through Service Ministry

Sixth and Seventh Grade

· All of the Learning Goals in Nursery to Fifth Grade
· Baptismal Covenant:

o Why would God want us to promise? (4th and 5th promise), pg 304 BCP
o Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?
o Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?

· Understand more about the Episcopal Church
· Greater awareness of the Rite of Holy Communion, pg 361 BCP, HEII
· Continued use in class of their Connect Bible
· To promote, frame and discuss together tougher theological questions
· To be familiar with The Book of Common Prayer
· Memorize the Nicene Creed, pg 358 BCP, HE II
· To begin to take an active role in worship by serving as acolytes, ushers, choristers, and lectors
