Draw Near to the Manger

Draw Near to the Manger: a new in-person bible study series begins November 3rd

After a two-week hiatus, Wednesday Bible Study will return on November 3rd with a five-week series entitled “Draw Near to the Manger.“ Using Vanderbilt Professor Amy-Jill Levine’s book, Light of the World: A Beginner’s Guide to Advent, we will explore the history, theology, and Old Testament context for the birth narratives in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

Professor Levine writes: “The Nativity accounts had to fulfill two functions: they had to enlighten and they also had to entice, to draw us more deeply into the chapters that follow. . . . When we recognize the historical background and the literary art, we can see how brilliantly the Evangelists, in quite different ways, accomplished their goals.“

Could there be a better way to prepare for the season of Advent?!

Bible Study will meet every Wednesday, from November 3rd through December 1st, at 10:30 a.m. in the Elliot Room. Professor Levine’s book is available on Amazon, or the Church Office would be happy to order a copy for you. Please contact the Rev. Kelly Carlson for more information and to let her know you would like to participate: or 314-993-2306 ext 107.  Participants need to be fully vaccinated.
