Search Committee Update - April 30

The Search Committee has completed its “zoom” interviews with candidates to serve as St. Peter’s next Rector.  We are excited to accomplish this milestone in the search process! A lot of preparation went into making this first round of interviews a success.

The Committee prepared questions which were asked of each candidate during his or her hour-long interview, with five members of the Committee serving as the interview panel for every interview. This consistency in terms of content and people helped to ensure fairness in the process. Every interview was recorded so that the remaining Committee members had the option to log on to Zoom to observe an interview “live” or watch the recording at a later time.

The Committee also prepared for the interviews in terms of taking care of our candidates. Last Sunday we heard Annie Knapp preach about following the example of the Good Shepherd, Jesus, and serving as a good shepherd for one another. The Search Committee put this calling into action as every candidate has been partnered with a Committee member who serves as his or her Shepherd for the remainder of the search process.  A Shepherd stays in touch with his or her candidate, not only answering questions so that the person can come to an interview feeling prepared, but also making sure that he or she feels supported throughout what can be a stressful process. No matter who is called to serve as our next Rector, the Committee wants every candidate to know the love and care that is an integral part of St. Peter’s.

What comes next?  With initial interviews completed, the Search Committee has the task of discerning which candidates to call into further and deeper conversation. The Committee is excited about the path ahead and deeply appreciate the congregation’s continued prayers and support as we draw closer to the fruition of this search process.
